The Nutrition Exchange of Southwest Michigan brings together food pantries, senior meal programs, hunger relief entities, farmers, and community partners to strengthen the regional food-health ecosystem. In pursuit of this purpose, the Nutrition Exchange will:

• Shift the Focus to Nutritional Security: Move beyond addressing food insecurity as calories alone to emphasize nutritional security, ensuring consistent access to foods that are nourishing, health-affirming, and capable of supporting long-term wellness.
• Build Collaborative Capacity: Facilitate cooperation among agencies to share resources, identify service gaps and anticipated limitations to service delivery, and develop community-driven solutions that strengthen both food access and health outcomes.
• Advance Education: Promote community-facing education to improve nutritional literacy and support healthy behaviors, while also providing organizational education that builds the capacity of staff and volunteers to source, distribute, and guide clients toward nutrient-dense foods in a manner that preserves dignity and supports healthcare needs.
• Improve Food Access: Enhance the quality, consistency, and cultural relevance of nutritious foods offered at community access points, including pantries, senior centers, and meal programs.
• Support Local Agriculture: Establish sustainable purchasing pathways that create reliable markets for small and mid-sized farms, generate new revenue streams, and affirm the role of local agriculture as a cornerstone of community wellness.
