In partnership with Southwest Michigan Food is Health Collaborative, the Berrien Community Foundation, and SBG Health Strategies, we are proud to announce the launch of the Nutrition Exchange of Southwest Michigan — a new regional network connecting hunger relief organizations and local farms to meet rising needs with community-driven solutions.
The Exchange strengthens our local food system by ensuring neighbors facing hunger can access fresh, locally grown foods that promote health, while also supporting the livelihoods of area farmers. Together, we envision a healthier, more connected region where partners and growers work side by side to reduce food insecurity and improve well-being for every household.
Thanks to the generosity of the Cook Nuclear Plant Foundation and the commitment of Kelly Ferneau to community investment, the Nutrition Exchange is launching with a bold goal: to procure and distribute over 50,000 pounds of local fruits, vegetables, eggs, and meat across Berrien County households in the next 12 months.
This effort will ensure that nutrient-dense foods reach food pantries, senior meal sites, and home-delivered meal programs — strengthening health, supporting local farmers, and preserving dignity for our neighbors.
